afterimage is an exploration of the stories that shadows tell. Passing before light, we cast
shadows–ephemeral images that convey the full spectrum of emotion. An afterimage of
reality held in our mind, shifting figures against the ground. Jeffrey Berman explores ‘the
mystery of shadows’, in which passing strangers, leaves in the breeze, or an outstretched hand reveal an essence often hidden by the visual detail of everyday sight.
Born and raised in Toronto, Jefffrey Berman has been taking pictures for most of his life. Working with film and digital media in a variety of formats, he seeks images that speak of unresolved meaning, humour and the hidden essence of things. For more than 25 years, Berman has focused his work on artistic endeavours, including writing, directing and producing projects for film and television. He is the recipient of several national and international awards, including three Gemini wins, including for the hit television series, The Kids in the Hall.
