About the Book
A photographic study, from a landscape photographer's viewpoint, of the Swift Island Bridge on Lake Tillery in central North Carolina. Crossing the Pee Dee River and tying Montgomery and Stanly Counties since 1927, the bridge is scheduled for replacement in the next few years. The beautiful old concrete arched bridge is officially named the James B. Garrison Bridge, but locals still use the more romantic "Swift Island".
Along with grand images of the bridge in the early morning hours, the book also contains some bridge history and personal recollections by the photographer, who is a life-long resident of Montgomery County.
