About the Book
Recipes hold a little bit of history within them. Every family has their own unique spin on common dishes, the instructions often secretly passed down generation after generation. Buen Provecho is an attempt to gather and celebrate these recipes. I spent ten weeks collaborating with three 6th grade classrooms at Sabin Elementary School in Chicago to make this work. Students brought in one recipe from home - something that was a family favorite or was a fabled dish in their household. They wrote out and illustrated the recipes with watercolors and inks and took cameras home to document how their families came together around food - eating, cooking and shopping. Part oral history, part cookbook. www.joelwanek.com
