A boat from Burma on the Rhine. The photographer Bettina Flitner bought the wooden fishing vessel on Lake Inle, situated on a high plateau in the Shan Mountains near to the Chinese border, and transported it back from Myanmar to Germany. Here on the banks of the Rhine, Flitner photographed a diverse collection of individuals and groups of people. Casting managers and drag queens, nuns and the homeless into a mise-en-scène, she orchestrated a lyrical, poetic procession of people on their travels: nomadic globetrotters, journeying upstream and downstream along the river of life.
