About the Book
WWF Heart of Borneo
The ‘Heart of Borneo’ is a 220,000 square km area of protected rainforest on the Southeast Asian island of Borneo, the third largest island in the world. Borneo is politically shared between the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei and considered extremely valuable in terms of biodiversity.
Borneo’s forests are under threat by the logging, palm oil and mining industries. The WWF’s Heart of Borneo project is crucial to the survival of Borneo’s endangered species including the orangutan, pygmy elephant, rhinoceros and clouded leopard; as well as the discovery of new species.
This book visualizes the photographic highlights of Jonne Seijdel's one month visit to Heart of Borneo in Kalimantan Barat; one of the four Indonesian provinces in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. As an Interactive / Media / Design student at the Royal Academy of Art, Jonne had the opportunity to graduate in collaboration with one of the for him most inspiring organizations in the world: WWF.
Mainly focussed on his subject 'humans in the natural world' Jonne documented the daily life from Pontianak (Kalimantan Barat capital city) to the Kapuas Hulu district and amongst others participated in the Panda Click (Photovoice) project and local ecotourism logistics. An experience made possible by WWF Netherlands and WWF Indonesia.
