This is a photo essay of eight years in a rural desert, called Wonder Valley. It is in the middle of nowhere and yet it is the center of the universe. A nature book and yet not nature book. Images of fire and old vinyl car seats baked in the desert sun, cactus flowers and dead dogs. Mostly a place of beauty and wonder.
In my most recent trip to the desert from the sea, I decided to use my book as a way to be proactive in protecting the wilderness in Wonder Valley that I love. I am donating 5% of the profits from my book “8 Years in Wonder Valley” to The Mojave Desert Land Trust …an organization that is striving to attain more open land for the future. I personally know many of the advisory board and am happy to contribute something to this great effort. When you buy the book, you help an artist continue to bring vision and beauty into the world and also protect a piece of the natural environment for future generations. Peace, Perry
Perry Hoffman, artist. When I am not taking photographs of wonder I can be creating mosaics or painting or hands in clay. Currently working on a mosaic tile house in Wonder Valley. Firing clay buddhas in the kiln and making handmade tiles at the ocean. Here in a place time almost forgot still radiates a magic that propels us to see and think and work and live in another way. When you have to stop what you're doing in order to look at what the sky is doing then you know you're in an unusual place. Don't blink in the desert or you might miss something. I found a seahorse in the desert and a dolphin at the sea. Here in the middle of nowhere and the center of the universe, I also found love.
