My partner and I were tired of living in the big city and wanted to move into the country ten years ago. Space, peace and quiet were number one on our list. After searching for two years all over Holland, we found this house in Friesland. The house was situated in the middle of an acre of land, divided into two pastures on either side, one for keeping animals and the other for developing a spacious garden.
We arrived with two cats but soon a third, stray cat showed up on our driveway and seemed to feel quite at home on our land – so much so, in fact, it was as though he belonged here. We decided to adopt him, though in truth he adopted us.
Foppe walked into our life and changed it in ways we could not have imagined!
In 2005 a good friend introduced me to Flickr. For all this time I had been reporting about our life with the cats, sheep, geese and ducks in word only and finally I had the opportunity to illustrate the adventures using images. What started as a fun past-time developed into a blog that I updated almost daily.
Foppe's Acre on Flickr became quite popular over the years. Many of the blog followers encouraged me to group my photos and stories together. This book is the result of that effort.
