About the Book
We spend much of our lives working, but we live them here.
This story is about the players, coaches, families, and communities that support the youth baseball teams of the 78th Precinct in Brooklyn. And to recognize how very precious that time and effort is in the journey of these boys.
Through these images we witness their journey, to see these moments they will hold with a certain clarity for it's success or failure, which will become a part of their whole. And those moments will stay with them as they grow into men.
Seeing my son play also brings back the memory of my own days playing ball, but with the shift in perspective of a father, feeling for his hopes and desires (and my own for him). It makes these simple times shared by all larger by how it spans our lives, and shows me how these times played out on our small stage gives context and meaning to the larger world of triumph and tragedy.
There are good things in this world, and often times they are the small moments - a base hit, the comfort of your coach after getting hit with a pitch, or the ice cream after a game on a warm saturday afternoon that make these the moments where we live.
