This book contains pictures taken during the final six months of regular steam working in Britain until that sad day on 11 August 1968 when the Farewell Special IT57 the "15 Guinea Special" ran. This book could be subtitled "Mainly Sheds" as most of the pictures depict scenes in the North West around motive power depots such as Patricroft, Heaton Mersey, Bolton and Newton Heath. The general squalor and dereliction of the average BR steam shed was something that the preservation scene cannot replicate because of health and safety regulations.
