I initially showed some of the work from this project series at the Palm Springs Photo Festival in March 2011, as a finalist in the PSPF slideshow contest.
Prior to that I wasn't quite sure what to do with the images, or how to present them, as it was a difficult and emotionally challenging body of work -- for the subject and her family first and foremost, but for me as well.
I was also subconsciously waiting, I think, for the story to have a happy ending. And for now at least, this particular story does have a 'happy' ending; happy endings being relative, of course.
[N.B. This was my first attempt at designing and putting together a book of my own; it contains 37 photographs, both color and black & white, printed on Premium Lustre paper. I was -am!- incredibly honored that my book was selected as a Finalist & People's Choice Award Nominee in the Documentary category of Blurb's 2011 Photo Book Now contest.]
