LIKE SANDS SHIFTING, URBANITES LEAVE MARKS ON THEIR SURROUNDINGS. FROM GUM TO PAINT TO TRASH AND SCRATCHES TO A FAMILIAR SURFACE, THE MOVEMENT OF SO MANY BODIES WITH SUCH VIBRANT LIVES LEAVES BEHIND A TRAIL OF MODERN-LIFE. CITY FOSSILS.

THIS NEVER-STATIC, INFINITELY FASCINATING WORLD OF VISUAL LAYERS IS JUST LYING THERE, RIPE FOR DISCOVERY. THE 1 PHONE + 1 MILE PROJECT IS A WAY FOR ME TO DOCUMENT THESE VISUAL GEMS IN WILLIAMSBURG'S RAPIDLY CHANGING URBAN LANDSCAPE THAT WILL SOON VANISH (MANY ALREADY HAVE) AS WILLIAMSBURG TRANSITIONS INTO A HIGH-RISE, HIGH-GLOSS URBAN CENTER.

ALL PHOTOS ON THIS SITE ARE MY ORIGINAL WORK TAKEN WITH 1 IPHONE WITHIN 1 MILE OF MY APARTMENT BEGINNING APRIL 2010 IN WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN. THIS EXACT VERSION WAS AVAILABLE FOR A LTD TIME EXCLUSIVELY @ MOMA DESIGN & BOOKS, NYC. READ A REVIEW OF THIS BODY OF WORK HERE: http://www.brooklynstreetart.com/theblog/?s=Kate+Meersschaert
