About the Book
Studies in Contrast is a project that emerged from a January 2011 blog post called “Face the Enemy,” in which I turned my camera on myself as an exercise in creative boundary pushing. This book pairs these images with other work that highlights issues and ironies of concealment and disclosure, isolation and connection, and the play of light and dark that have long been central to my work.
Gabriella Mirollo is a poet and photographer originally from Manhattan and now living in Vermont. With its range of classic architecture, street scenes, waterfront views, grand parks and gardens, my home town, and the masters of black and white film photography who have loved and captured it before me, continue to be a great inspiration for my images, studies in the stark geometries and contrasts of dark and light, and surprising amount of human expression and emotion inanimate objects can offer to the sensitive eye. contact me: firstname.lastname@example.org
