After spending four years living completely nomadically, I moved to Calcutta, India and rented a small apartment in the neighborhood of Chetla with my wife Deonnie. She was doing dissertation research there, and I aspired to see India through the eyes of a resident, not a tourist. I soon found that words alone could not do justice to the overwhelming experience that is India, nor could pictures alone capture the complexity and nuance of life there without words to give those pictures some context. This book is a series of letters home, each letter a photo essay attempting to paint a picture, with both words and images, of life in India. I hope you will enjoy.
