Enjoy more than 400 photographs taken by the author across the United States during five decades. The emphasis is on the man-made beauty of the Northeast—from Manhattan architecture to Vermont foliage—and on the natural beauty of the West, both its mountains and its erosion-carved landscapes.
The photography features, natural light, the effects of weather, patterns in both architecture and nature, and the ability to see beauty both in broad landscapes and in narrow angles that focus on one aspect of a subject to symbolize the whole.
Each image was chosen for its photographic quality rather than for its content. The result is a selection of images that capture the beauty of America, rather than a complete collection of familiar American landmarks.
To supplement this visual interpretation, the author also has included a dozen word portraits—his memories and impressions of individual states, people, and events.
Robert A. Parker has been an active writer and photographer for more than 40 years. He has won national awards as a director of publications for corporate magazines, and his free-lance writing has appeared in The New York Times and major consumer magazines. He has also exhibited award-winning photos in the New York/New Jersey area, including with his wife Margot at both the Venezuelan Consulate and the Donnell Library in Manhattan, plus at Brookdale Community College, Freehold, and New Providence Memorial Library. His work has also been shown at The Donald B. Palmer Museum, Springfield, Sussex County Community College, and the Arts Guild of Rahway. Margot has earned many awards. She has received a major “Award of Merit” from the New Jersey Photography Forum, plus awards from art associations of Rutherford and Clifton. She has also exhibited her photography and art in group exhibits at the National Arts Club, Manhattan, the Segal Gallery, Montclair State, and other venues.
