Offering a glimpse of the state's capitol from a unique and rarely seen perspective, photographer Chris M. Wachtelhausen presents the city of Hartford in a very different light. Using long exposures to give a feeling of drama in the city skies or shooting in the early morning hours or late at night, Wachtelhausen presents images of the architecture and cityscapes of New England's Rising Star. Hartford In a Different Light is a long-term project, spanning from 2006 to 2011, and includes prints previously seen in Bushnell Park's Pumphouse Gallery and City Hall as well as photographs adorning executive suites in the city's largest companies.

About the Author

Chris M. Wachtelhausen
cwachtel Milford, CT

Award-winning and internationally recognized photographer, Chris Wachtelhausen has traveled extensively, capturing unique and awe-inspiring photographs. He primarily shoots landscapes, architecture and cityscapes, and has expanded his focus to include a variety of different subjects under low-light and night time conditions. Urban decay being one of those subjects.

As can be seen throughout his galleries, a constant theme to Chris' work includes landscapes with dramatic cloud formations as well as capturing motion by either freezing or blurring the action. Often he will blend the cloud and motion themes together to give viewers the impression of actually being there.

Chris was a finalist in the Outdoor Photographer Nature's Colors Contest and won a Bronze Award in the 2009 International Aperture Awards. Earlier in the year, he was a finalist in the 2009 Photographers Forum's Spring Contest and was published in the book Best of Photography 2009.
