He portrayed himself as a happy go lucky guy enjoying “yet another day in paradise”. It was a lie. He struggled with monstrous temper tantrums and bouts of deep depression. No one knew. To everyone he was “the luckiest guy, continually perched on top of the world”. He wore a mask and wore it well. When he took his life there were whispers, but those were squelched with another lie, a surfing accident. Everyone bought it. Suicide was incongruous...
Rain Dance is the story of a wonderful man who lost his way, and about his wife, the woman who loved him who lost herself as well trying desperately to help him. It is about her desperate search for meaning in what had become a shattered, broken, disconnected life.
Harkey honors the love of her life; her husband, the father of her two children, her best friend, a creative giant, a businessman, surfer extraordinaire. She reassembles the fragments of her own life after she loses him and the successful world they built together.
Roni Cheryl Harkey is a special event planner/producer, who, after 25 years at the helm of her successful and widely recognized event firm, works part time as an independent consultant. She is a Miami native who now resides in Lighthouse Point, Florida. She is the mother of two grown children. Rain Dance; Love, Depression and Suicide… Pieces of a Life Disconnected is her first book.
