About the Book
The Stirred + Simmered project is an investigation of culinary narratives by students of the Graphic Production course within the Community Arts and Diversity studies program. Using ethnographic research and interviewing, each student sat one-on-one with chefs from La Cocina’s Food Business Incubation program to hear first-hand about the experiences, motivations and meaning surrounding their recipes, business and culinary practices. Back in the studio, students were challenged to experiment with typography, pattern-making, layout and creative writing as a way to synthesize their research into a visual story in which to share with the larger community. These stories and recipes have been collected into this visual cookbook memoir that you now hold in your hands.
