Owls represent many things to many cultures, from symbols of wisdom and knowledge, to harbingers of death and destruction. Whether revered or feared, owls always seem to be creatures of mystery, in no small part because of their predominantly nocturnal habits.
In her third book, photographer Jen St. Louis shares her favorite owl photos. Most of these owls were found injured in the wild or rescued from lives as pets. Whatever the circumstances of their rescues, they are unable to be released into the wild, and many are now part of educational outreach programs.
