About the Book
Rude, or Not,...or Depends is a unique picture book of colorful and engaging images depicting 22 social situations and social rules.
Educators, social workers, therapists who work with teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorders will use this book in small groups of individuals to spark conversation on the topic of social interactions, and perceptions of how others “view” us.
This picture book visually gets right to the issues of “theory of mind” and social skills. It can be used to assist those individuals who need to comport themselves in socially acceptable ways in order to improve their social status or employability.
The artwork of Kyle Garrelts is visually entertaining, engaging, and each image/social event is easily deciphered. This book is unique in that it allows the group members to initiate and lead the discussion simply by viewing, interpreting, and responding to the pictures. The educator, therapist, or social worker guides the discussion and helps reframe the member’s view of the social world and their social skills. The group members give each other feedback and support each other as they work together to improve social understanding.
