This work is an extended photo-essay from August 2010 on the Beara Peninsula in South
West Ireland. Instead of deliberately alluding to the vague “myths and legends” of this
ancient part of Ireland I only photographed what I encountered. I also wanted to produce
a book on landscapes that would consider a little more the location rather than producing
a series of purely anonymous and sterile shots with a heavy onus on the aesthetic and
technique. In essence my approach was to pare down this gnarled coastal landscape and
re-present it.
