About the Book
Geoff Cooke explains how Zimbabwe's railway developed and how his interest in railways grew before he explains how he overcame countless obstacles as he conceived, built and then ran Africa's first privately owned safari train. A true but amusing story that certainly includes luxury, the train competed with the best in the world - and Lunacy - read the book to find out more.
This book has monochrome photographs. Also available with coloured photographs.
Born in London, England, Geoff grew up in Bulawayo, the second city of Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). In 1986 Geoff persuaded the National Railways of Zimbabwe to allow him to run a tourist train from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls, a roller coaster ride that is now the subject of this book. Recognised as one of the leading authorities in African tourist train operations, Geoff still plans and hosts tours to Africa that include many of the continent's railways. Geoff and Sheelagh now live in Kidderminster, England, where they can hear the steam whistles on the Severn Valley Railway from their garden.
