"...At night and early morning, when the guests are sleeping, the ghosts of residents and owners past seem to tiptoe down the corridors and strike poses in the elegant lounges. There, the old part of the building with its warren of rooms, high ceilings, sash windows, ornate cornices and marble floors more closely resemble their appearance when the Clarendons owned The Grove.

Guests have remarked that, particularly in Winter, the rather severe-looking, rambling mansion perched above the frozen, misty valley and surrounded by groves of skeleton trees, reminds them of the Grange in Emily Brontë's 1847 novel "Wuthering Heights". I agree - I could almost see Heathcliff and Cathy stepping down into the valley, hand in hand, reunited."
