The orchids of the Fakahatchee, the open prairies of the Big Cypress, the palm forests of the Panther Preserve, the mangrove islands of Rookery Bay and the Ten Thousand Islands are unique to American and the world.
Visit them through bold forms and dancing colors of Everglades painter Jo-Ann Sanborn, who has spent two decades observing and interpreting the Everglades landscape in her work. She reveals Everglade secrets and seasons in this delightful book of her paintings and thoughts about the landscape she holds dear.
I paint in and around Marco Island, and especially enjoy painting the beauty of the nearby Everglades. Embracing the Everglades contains many of those paintings, and stories about the landscape itself. I work "en plein air" whenever possible. The images in my paintings are familiar components of the Everglades; palms, clouds, prairies, water. I paint their bold forms and uncommon colors with joy and discovery. Through my painting, it is my hope that the viewer will become more personally involved with an appreciative response to the threatened landscape I portray.
