This book, “Badlands” by Tom Carroll, is a photographic tour through the Badlands National Park that is a land of sharp ridges, steep walled canyons, gullies, pyramids and knobs that has been so ruthlessly ravaged by wind and water that it is now hugely picturesque. The Badlands are a wonderland of bizarre, colorful spires and pinnacles, massive buttes and deep gorges. Erosion of the Badlands reveals sedimentary layers of different colors: purple and yellow (shale), tan and gray (sand and gravel), red and orange (iron oxides) and white (volcanic ash). 120 photographs. Tom Carroll has an excellent eye for photography and an obvious love for expressing that ability through the landscape. His choice of pictures and book design ability make "Badlands: A Photographic Tour" a worthy addition to any photography lover's bookshelf.
