Tir m’Oige: Land of my Youth is a photographic journey through the island of Lewis and Harris accompanied by memories of a childhood spent on the island. These photographs, taken in 1999 and 2000, are images of contemporary Hebridean life and reflect aspects past and present of this unique island.
Those who have not yet experienced the atmosphere and landscape of these Western Isles are invited to read and take a part of it with them.
Those who have loved it and visited it can be refreshed by the images and aspects intrinsic to the culture of the island.
A designer, artist and photographer raised in Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides, Colin Campbell runs his design agency Aspire Concepts from the picturesque village of Inverkip on the Clyde coast in Scotland. After graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee with a degree in Graphic Design in 2001, Colin worked in the design and print industry in Glasgow for several years before setting up Aspire Concepts in 2004. The work seen here offers only a glimpse of a larger design and photography portfolio that celebrates the environment and culture of Scotland and beyond. Taking as central themes the wild open Hebridean spaces of land and sea, along with his Highland heritage, the artist paints an evocative and haunting picture of life at the edge of the world. Colin applies this eye for highlighting the wonder of the ordinariness of cultures and spaces to every new location or subject.
