This book began life as a portfolio of work created by the artists Hayes Hayes. It was seen as a showcase of their ability to create powerful worlds within their photographs, rather than a book based upon a single theme.
All images were created over one year as self-funded projects, and explored emotions, and situations with narrative. As the portfolio progressed a style became noticeable. Due to this the term ‘lifescapes’ was coined, which perfectly relates to the epic and cinematic feel that shines through in each image. At this point the book took on a life of its own, and became a visual journey of discovery for the artists.
A ‘Lifescape’ is more than just a photograph, it is a captured moment with a strong narrative, a story leading the viewer to create their own conclusions to the ‘before’ and ‘after’ situations presented in this book.
Each image has its own story to reveal, some are part of a group, but all have a distinctive look that symbolize a fusion of human emotion mixed into a landscape or enclosed environment. A lifescape can also work behind closed doors, revealing the deeper perspective of the subjects involved, whether they are alone, nude, or a couple interacting with each other.
Ultimately ‘Lifescapes’ are stories set amongst the landscape that is the human condition.
