It was a time to enjoy the warmth and sunshine along this Pacific Coast of Mexico in a small resort village called Barra de Navidad.
But what we also found was a touch of the culture and of friendship in the form of carnival celebrations, parades, and pageantry.
I shot these images 11 years ago, when I was invited by Meredith Smith and her daughter to join them on their yearly trek down south of the border.
Shortly afterward I moved to Hawai'i, and the negatives have been in storage ever since.
I dug up the 22 rolls and had them digitized, and this is what I found.
