A pictorial homage to the amazing late modernist Sydney Opera House.
The sails of the regatta repeat the design of the building. The sensually curved roof echoes the Sydney Harbor Bridge. From Bennelong Point, you get the late modernist view of the Opera House. The son of a naval engineer, brought shipbuilding in the design in subtle ways. The arches in their simplicity emphasized Utzon's synthesis of form, material and function. Utzon compare his work to the growth patterns of nature, "a design can grow like a tree, he explained. “ If it grows naturally, the architecture will look after itself. " At the Sydney Harbor side, the familiar shell shape transforms into rising sea creatures.
Native of Ohio, raised in South Louisiana by a father who loved flowers and gardening, and a mother who never met a book she didn't want to read, I have pondered writing for a long time. I find peace and calm when surrounded by flowers and books. I have spent more than 30 years in the education field as a teacher, administrator and consultant. And lately, I am having the best time teaching writing to kids from kindergarten to twelfth grade. On the other side of my world, for more 30 years, I have been building community thru building effective nonprofit organizations. As an NPO consultant, I have traveled to many corners of the world to teach and spread the message of community strength through nonprofits.
