About the Book
The Qhapaq Ñan ("the beautiful road") is the collective Quechua name for the system of roads that criss-crossed the modern nations of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile--collectively once known as the Inca Empire..
The images in this work cover brief but representative parts; the North through the highlands of Cajamarca to riverine jungles of Tingo Maria; and South from the ancient Incan capital of Cusco across the Altiplano to Lago Titicaca and the Bolivian Border
Taken while making a feature film, the images capture some of the authors' daily encounters both with the people and environment. Although the vagaries of time have in places made accurate identification impossible, we have tried to replicate the feel and flow of the road as traveled.
