About the Book
The Socio Demographic and Economic Survey is a population survey exercised in Bamiyan province by the Afghan government with the support of the United Nations.
The Survey is aimed to produce detailed data on the population, including the state of the economy and infrastructure of the province.
Afghanistan never had an extensive census and years of war and migration tend to make estimates very inaccurate. The current political and security situation of the country now and for the last 40 years has never allowed for the conduct of a census.
But this kind of data would be crucial to the democratic and economic development of the country. One partial solution can be to collect data one province at the time, and Bamyian was the first province in Afghanistan to be surveyed in such detail.
In August 2011 I was assigned by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to produce photographic documentation of the survey and a photographic book.
I tried to give a face to the numbers of the census.
