Naked is a series of fragmented, contorted and graphic nude portraits showing our mixed public vs hidden selves and views of life. The idea behind this is that we are not one-dimensional beings, humans have many different sides and aspects of personality which require shifts in perspective to be seen. We have evolved as humans over many millions of years and much of the way we behave has been coded in our genes, some of them equally millions of years old.
From the moment we are born we have an expectation of what will happen to us, in line with our human animal continuum, but instead are subjected to a life that is not in line with our evolutionary programming.
We should not underestimate the damage this causes to societies in the west, producing needy children constantly expecting to be passively entertained, and later as we grow up this is replaced by the media and business that fill the void from our constant need for attention and reassurance that was denied us as children.
My series asks: how do you see yourself? What frustrates you, makes you mad, angry, happy and sad, gives you pleasure? How do you see yourself and how do others see you?
