India is a vast country with 28 states and 7 union territories with population of more than 1.2 billion. Seventy percent of people live in the rural areas . Rural people in each state or region have number of folk dance forms, which have developed over the years and are practiced by them .Such dances are termed folk dances. Within India states ,there are some 645 ethnic groups recognized by Indian Government as scheduled tribes. These ethnic groups have their own folk dances which are performed by one or more tribe spread over a region.
