About the Book
In 1996 I travelled from the Netherlands to the North Cape by bike with friend and artist Bart Lodewijks. On our way back we passed through Estonia, Lativa and Lithuania: three Baltic States that were part of the Soviet Union until 1991. As we cycled through, the local bus stops caught my eye. Why are they all so different? Why are they shaped so peculiarly? Right then and there I decided that one day I would capture these bus stops on film.
In the summer of 1997 I returned to the Baltic States with my girlfriend, Marjolein de Wild, in search of the bus stops. This time we travelled by car, and took a medium-format camera, plenty of film and a tripod.
