Life in Egypt happens along the road.

When I was faced with a long daily commute along the agricultural roads of Middle Egypt, I took the opportunity to try to capture scenes of everyday happenings. Weaving between trucks, motorcycles and donkeys at 100 kilometers an hour, vignettes of small moments popped out as people went about their lives – kids on their way to school, cows being walked to the fields, and men proudly posing on their bikes.

At a time when Egypt is mostly known through images of political unrest or of ancient grandeur, I hope these photos offer a glimpse of life in the rest of the country today.
