These images were made during a two week period in April 2008. Led by Don Lyon of Close-Up Expeditions, the trip started in Lisbon, moved north along the coast to Coimbra & Oporto, then east & south visiting Guarda, Castelo de Vida & Evora, before arriving on the southern Algarve coast. After exploring the Algarve, we returned to Lisbon with a side trip to Sintra.
Time has passed Portugal by...with rugged lands, numerous quaint fishing villages, fortified hill towns & a friendly populace. It is one of the oldest countries in Europe. Its founding in 1139 predates Spain by 350 years. Azulejos (painted ceramic tiles), brightly painted fishing boats, terraced vineyards, cork oak trees & fields of wild flowers are only some of the sights available for the traveler.

His photographic experiences continued thruout his college days & professional career-taking him to Central & South America & thruout the U.S. His earlier years utilized film & slides in the 35 mm format. In the late 1990's, he moved to digital which he continues to use today, attempting to evolve as the science evolves. His wife Jane was dragged kicking into photography, but has since become an ardent student of the subject.
