About the Book
Carlton Arms Hotel Art Project
The Carlton Arms Art Project started in 1980. A Group of artists decided to paint the rooms of the in those days dark hotel inhabited by outcasts. Nowadays all the 54 rooms are painted by artists from all over the world, among them is world famous Banksy. F. Franciscus was
invited to create a new look for room 5c. To keep track of his fast paced New York City adventure he blogged in the form of this diary ‘5c YOCA NYC’.
The works of F. Franciscus (born 1959, Utrecht, the Netherlands) are mostly inspired by classic European paintings often with a biblical background. He combines or re-arranges compositions of old masters depicting
biblical stories in an up-to-date and idiosyncratic
fashion. His themes are put in a modern context in an intelligent way, resulting in humorous and appealing art that can sometimes shock the viewer as well. Franciscus’s paintwork tries to create space for a broader view on human kind. F. Franciscus lives and works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His work was exhibited in the Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Jordan, Spain, Swiss, South Africa, U.K. and U.S.A.
