"Well, now that I've read it what does it mean?" When I'm asked that I feel they have missed the point. They likely ask due to so much emphasis in their schooling to 'dissect' a poem into all its bits. Sorry, its no longer a poem when its all in bits, but only words that are without any breath in them, no life.
Poems may be an attempt to express a moment in time, or feelings, or experiences, or that which has no words. A poem may attempt to emote in others what was experienced, and/ or to record it for the writer. Meaning isn't just in each word chosen, or as a group, but also in the sound of the words, the cadence of them as well. And, the silence can be just as important.
What does it mean?
Nothing. Everything.
Experience it!
