About the Book
The fourth volume in a set of photographic books looking at the history of Cleveland through five distinct eras; Vol 1 : The Erie; a look at the indigenous people who lived in the area prior to European settlement. Vol 2: Early Settlement; the story of the founding and initial settlement of "Cleaveland". Vol 3: Port of Trade; how the opening up of the Erie Canal and trade along the Great Lakes finally led to the growth of the city of "Cleveland", Vol 4: Industry; the industrial revolution that truly built the town, and Vol 5: Today; a visual question as to the future of the area.
These books grew out of a project that began as a collaborative installation artwork by the same name, first exhibited in 2010. Designed as a book in volumes, "Palimpsest" is available for purchase as 5 component volumes, with an option to purchase an edited 256-page single paperback that includes 5 volumes under one cover. “Palimpsest” includes: "The Erie", "Early Settlement", "Port of Trade", "Industry" and "Today".
