A Taste of Poetry & Prose
Farmgate Teen Writing Project
This book celebrates a selection of poetry and prose produced by the young writers who participated in the Farmgate Teen Writing Project**.
The teen writing project was born in the Farmgate Café in Cork - a place already associated with poetry: The Poetry Wall was installed in the café in 2004. Since then the wall of poems, a unique collection of poems comprising Cork, Irish and international poets, has aroused interest not only in the ever expanding collection of poems, but it has also worked in a visible and tangible way to create an interesting connection between the written works and all the other creative components in the café; paintings, sculpture, food, and the Market below (see more info about the Wall at http://www.farmgate.ie/corkart.htm) In these surroundings the teen writing project originated.
In 2011 we approached Liam Ronayne at Cork City Libraries with the idea of a teen poetry and prose project and from there it became a reality and a great success. The hard work of the Workshop mentors Eileen Sheehan, Kevin Doyle and John W. Sexton and the staff and students of three schools – Ballyphehane Presentation Secondary School, Mayfield Community School and Terence McSwiney Community College, made it a reality. A Taste of Poetry & Prose is the result. Enjoy!
**This is a not-for-profit writing project - funded by Farmgate Cafe. The book is sold at the cost of production by Blurb.
