13 Artists Selected by 13 Curators
Baker’s Dozen is an annual, survey-like show of 13 artist’s work who are making important strides forward in their work.
For this year’s edition TAM asked 12 Curators from other art institutions to join us and select 1 artist each, from the SoCal area, who’s practice signaled something important over the previous year - whether indicative of a dynamic shift in the artist’s work, the growth of a new trend or the maturing of an artist’s practice, the show gives a broad look at emerging art in Los Angeles today from the perspective of 13 Curators. The exhibition also reflects a sub-text pertaining to and upon the decision making processes and inclinations of curators as well as the role of the institutional hierarchy in the structure of career building.
The Torrance Art Museum is located at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center in the City of Torrance. It is a program of the Cultural Services Division of the City of Torrance Community Services Department. The Cultural Services Division is responsible for City-sponsored arts and cultural initiatives held at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center and throughout the City. The Museum encourages all people to develop and increase their understanding and appreciation for modern and contemporary artwork via a variety of exhibitions offered in its two gallery spaces, as well as educational programs, artist talks, lectures, and symposia.
