About the Book
In 2006 I traveled through northern India and parts of Nepal. India gets to you. The people, the colors, the food, the scent. It creeps in to you, gets under your skin. The contrasts couldn't be more explicit sometimes. Life and death have never been closer while floating along the Ganges river watching the burning scenes along the shore. You can almost feel the spirits and you immediately understand why this place is holy for the Indians. Being on the road you have the most wonderful encounters and visiting a palace you will suddenly find yourself amongst smiling children who all want their picture taken. India can be dirty, too crowded but what stays in your memory are all those wonderful moments of beauty.
Nepal has its own story to tell. Walking in the high grass of Chitwan National park you feel the adrenaline rushing through your veins, expecting every moment a rhino to appear in front of you. The narrow streets of Kathmandu and the villages in the valley have many secrets to show you if you open your eyes. And off course the serene sight of monks in red praying all day along their praying wheels.
I have been to Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur, Bundi, Bharatpur, Fatepur Sikri, Agra, Varanassi, Chitwan National park, Pohkara and Kathmandu.
These photos give an impression of what I have seen. What I remember of this incredible journey. I hope they take you on your own journey away from everyday life for a minute. And show you how beautiful our world and the people living it are.
