Tales of the Road
One thousand days by motorcycle through the Americas
by Chris Smith & Liz Peel
The blogs, as they were written while on the road. More than a thousand days, over seventy-two thousand miles, countless adventures and more than a few unexpected encounters. Three years riding a motorcycle around the Americas gave us far more than we ever bargained for – racing Mexican cowboys on galloping horses, swimming with hammer-head sharks in the Galapagos, being mistaken for a Government Minister in Peru and sharing New Years Eve with the Argentinean Navy.
Before we set off on a heavily overloaded motorbike into the unknown people gave us a hundred reasons not to do it. It was foolhardy, anything could happen to us, and it did, we could be mugged, and we were, we could catch tropical diseases, and we did, it could be dangerous, and it sometimes was. It was all those things and so much more. It was fantastic.
Liz Peel, with partner Chris Smith has undertaken and led numerous expeditions throughout the Americas using whatever means of transport come to hand, including canoes, three wheeled motor taxis, motorcycles and when all else fails, two feet. When not travelling Liz and her partner live in the UK, always looking to the next adventure.
