This photographic project was inspired by my own attachment with dogs. To some extent I am exploring a dog’s life and the secret agreements between the Master and his Dog. This can depend on who is the Master i.e. who is allowed to lie on the chair and who is in the dog house? The images in their natural surroundings (the home), and the studio shoots give me the opportunity to examine the bonds between them more closely.
The Dogs here have come from very different households and backgrounds. This meant some of the owners were less wealthy than others and do not have the opportunity to over indulge their dogs. Even the poorer dog lovers will spend their last penny on their dog’s welfare. For many people and for various reasons their animals become a lot more than just a pet or just a dog. They become companions and share an emotional connection, which is so strong it can be seen by the casual outsider. The images that I present are my attempts to capture the bond between man and his best friend.
My ambition was to allow the dogs and children, (and adults by that matter) just to be themselves! It was interesting to see the interaction between the Master and The Dog.
A portion of the proceeds from sales of this PHOTOBOOK, will be donated to the Guide Dog Centre, Bolton.
