After months of searching the internet, we finally get what we’re looking for: an owner of a vezdekhod – an Arctic tracked vehicle – willing to take us deep into the tundra. For a firm handful of rubles we can get to the reindeer herds people in their felt chums, right on the border betwee Europe and Asia. A vezdekhod is the only way to get there: not one road links the northern coal mining town of Inta, 38 hours by train from Moscow, to the outside world. Back here no helicopter pilot gets off the ground for less than a whopping 1000 dollars per hour...
