About the Book
The Hollow Bamboo is a collection of delicious and humble Cantonese home cooking recipes, from a small village, in what was formerly known as Canton, straight into your kitchen.
Since the 19th century, waves of Chinese immigrants from the Pearl River Delta, began flocking to different parts of the world in search of a new life. Whether it was to Europe, other parts of Asia, Australia, or the Americas, they brought with them their traditions, their memories, and a rich culinary heritage that is still alive today.
The Hollow Bamboo is a keepsake of the heart and belly-warming dishes that have been served in Cantonese homes for generations. It is a guide to foods not found in Chinese takeouts and it is a peek into the culture of the Chinese household. It is a reminder, for those of us who grew up with these dishes, of what we loved and hated as children.
