From June 5 until August 6, 2008, Nigel Maister and Ian Quinn embarked on an epic journey to the Stans and Mongolia.

Part I is a photo diary of the first part of their trip,
which took them through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, then back through Uzbekistan
before leaving for Russia and, eventually, Mongolia.
