About the Book
TRACKSIDE: Images of a Railroad Shutterbug is a photo-journal of sorts, documenting Brian R. Sopke's more recent travels to photograph trains, including a year in Pueblo, Colorado. Also included are many images of the Pacific Northwest - mainly around the Portland, Oregon area - where Brian was born and raised.
Brian has selected narratives that he feels help tell the stories contained in the photos. He has experiencd first-hand the magic of the endless steel ribbons of rail that carry so much of the nations goods. Brian hopes the readers are able to experience that magic for themselves through the images contained in TRACKSIDE.
Brian Sopke was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and has been an avid photographer since 1995. Brian primarily shoots photos using high-end Canon DSLR cameras and lenses, although he also employs a pair of Pentax K-1000 film cameras for shooting 35mm slides or print film. When not shooting nature, Brian can often be found volunteering at a local railroad museum or with camera in hand, shooting vintage architecture or railroads. Favorite locations include the Columbia River Gorge and the Oregon Coast.
