I agree with Elliott Erwitt: "To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them."

These black & white photographs were made as I drove around the southeast during my daily life and travels. Hand-painted signs are especially interesting to me. I hope you'll take the time to look at some of the page previews.

Michael Alvis is a photographer who enjoys exploring many places with his camera. He has traveled to Canada, Mexico, South Korea, and all 50 states in the USA. He lived and worked in Saitama, Japan for 6 years. He enjoys travel, eating sushi, reading, and watching films.

He is an adjunct art instructor at Carson-Newman University.
