Beginning with a career in watercolors and photo realism, Alana Kapell moves through various media of acrylics, oil paints, encaustic, ceramics, and rug hooking. Photo realism, abstract, non-dominant work and symbolism are represented. One reviewer says, "In Alana Kapell's art I see visual allusions to a rich variety of cultures and traditions: prehistoric, Ancient Greek, pre and early Christian, the pantomime tradition, current Mexican folk art, and even a kind of quirky pantheism a la Old MacDonald's Farm. Her work has the sacredness of icons and often the potency, whimsy, and aesthetic of child art."
