Nigel Foster has moved to the Normandy countryside. He is a dropout. He reads, drinks wine by the fire, and he studies the wildlife. Most of all, Nigel Foster does not want to meet anyone.
That was five months ago.
Rikard Barram is billeted in a Normandy farmhouse. He is the local face of the German occupation. But he is no brute. He sketches the trees, he writes home to his mother. Slowly, he comes to understand the locals. His war ends suddenly, in a secluded orchard, amid the turmoil of the liberation.
That was 1944.
Now Rikard Barram and Nigel Foster will meet. In a secluded orchard.
